I was preparing for an AI workshop for government contractors.

One challenge continued: accessing a database with close to 100,000 contracting opportunities.

Most people do this manually; they search, filter, and analyze.

It's tedious work that eats hours.

I decided to show three approaches to solving this problem with AI: deep research, a locally built and run AI agent, and an AI app.

The winner?

A locally run AI agent that cost pennies to operate and eliminated needing a subscription service to execute.

Here's what happened.

I used my THINK method to build an AI agent that runs entirely on my desktop.

There is no Zapier, no Make, and no monthly fees.

It is just a conversation with Claude's desktop version, some simple setup, and a command I copy-paste into my Terminal.

The agent processes all 100,000 records, applies my filtering criteria, estimates API costs before running, performs deep analysis, and emails me detailed reports.

The total cost is cents to under $5.

What do similar workflows cost on traditional platforms?

Expensive monthly subscriptions and lots of setup.

The real power isn't cost savings.

It's control, security, and speed.

With desktop Claude, I get MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration, Claude Code, an API key, and Computer Use features unavailable on the web version.

My agent connects directly to Gmail, accesses my local files, and operates exactly how I think about the problem.

Building it required zero new tools.

I talked with Claude about what I wanted, told it to save files to my desktop, and watched it create the entire agent structure through the chat interface.

Then, I iterated—adding pre-filtering to control costs, building email integration, and refining the analysis logic.

The same framework that analyzes contracting opportunities works for any business intelligence task: sales leads, vendor evaluations, market research, or customer analysis.

The agent adapts because it's built to your specific needs.

This isn't just automation, it’s custom business intelligence that runs for pennies and thinks like your best analyst.

The future is locally run AI agents that eliminate manual work without learning new platforms or paying recurring fees.

You can build yours today with a conversation, knowledge, and a Claude.

No subscriptions required.
