I discovered something powerful while volunteering at an event for displaced federal employees on Saturday.

While preparing for the talk I put together a series of prompts to demonstrate how to use AI to assist with job search and reskilling.

Traditional search methods, so I showed them how to build a Job Intelligence Agent can cut the time doing search tasks.

While there, I met a staffing agency rep who shared with me how much time his team spends doing manual candiadte searches.

I asked him had he tried using ChatGPT. He said “No”. I have no idea how to start with that.

"Let me show you how. It will take two minutes to setup.

I snapped a picture of the job posting and uploaded it into ChatGPT.

Then I modified my Job Intelligence Agent prompt to fit his specific needs and enabled Deep Research.

I found 15 qualified candidates that matched his criteria.

The results included:

  • A summary of each candidate's background and qualifications

  • How well they matched the job requirements

  • Links to their LinkedIn profiles

Creative prompting for job searches goes beyond the basic job board queries that job seekers rely on.

Instead, it creates a strategic research assistant that uncovers hidden opportunities through sophisticated analysis.

What makes this approach so powerful is how it focuses on indicators, for example:

  • Companies receiving new funding

  • Leadership changes signaling reorganization

  • Government contract awards that require staffing up

  • Earnings reports hinting at expansion

You can use a similar approach to uncover hidden opportunity.

The strategic network mapping section of the prompt is particularly valuable.

Most people limit their networking to immediate connections, but this insight identifies second and third-degree connections who can help in your search.

Try running this prompt?

I'd be curious to know what kind of insights it generated for you.

The beauty of this approach is that it works across nearly any field - you just need to customize the intelligence gathering section.

What part of the job search process has been most challenging for you? This intelligence approach might help overcome those specific hurdles.
